Orakei Korako & the Squeeze

  

UPDATE: TRIP NOW SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY 1st JANUARY
UPDATE: WE WILL BE LAUNCHING FROM THE SOUTHERN END OF LAKE OHAKURI (FROM THE OHAKURI DAM RESERVE CAR PARK/BOAT RAMP NEXT TO THE DAM OFF OHAKURI ROAD) AND PADDLING UP TO THE SQUEEZE AS THE ORAKEI KORAKO VISITOR ATTRACTION WILL NOT LET US PARK A CAR IN THEIR CAR PARK FOR A SHUTTLE AS ORIGINALLY PLANNED AS IT IS ONE OF THEIR BUSIEST DAYS OF THE YEAR. ABOUT 15KM THERE AND BACK (EXCLUDING WALK UP THE SQUEEZE).

A great paddle with heaps of thermal action at Orakei Korako and for those keen to go for a thermal soak then there are various options on this lake or you may discover the little known 'Squeeze' and get the chance to hop out of your kayaks and take a watery walk up the warm narrow stream to a stunning natural hot pool for a soak!!!

You will get wet so be prepared.
Bring lunch but please bring money for the cafe too as they kindly let us park our vehicles there at the end to collect our kayaks.

Meet at the shop at 8am for ride in the van/trailer or meet at the boat ramp at 10am at Ohakuri Dam Reserve, off Ohakuri Road. Back by 6pm.
