UPDATE: This trip is going ahead. Wahooo!!!!
Labour Day - Monday 22nd October
One of the most dramatic parts of our local coastline, with steep cliffs and secluded white sandy beaches. Paddling from the northern end of Waihi Beach we'll track north up the coast along the Orokawa Scenic Reserve and stop at the beautiful Mataora Bay for lunch. If it's warm enough we'll go for a dip in the sea or just relax on the white sandy beach.
We'll then head back down the coast to Waihi Beach. In total we'll cover around 25km so you must be comfortable and fit enough to cope with the distance. You will also need to be comfortable beach launching and landing although it is normally quite sheltered.
This trip is weather and swell dependent.
Meet directly at the northern car park in Waihi Beach at
9am. Off water by 4pm at the latest.
There will be no van/trailer shuttle available for this trip. For any hire kayaks please arrange it directly with Canoe & Kayak BOP 07 5747415.
All attendees need to be current club members and have completed a Canoe & Kayak 2 day sea kayak skills course.
