Home > Yakity Yak Kayak Club
We are a friendly bunch of people who are always heading out on exciting paddling adventures, exploring this beautiful country of ours.
We cater for all levels of experience from beginners to advanced. You don’t need your own kayak as you can hire one from us if you choose.
To join the club you must have a suitable level of skills. The best way to achieve this is to complete a Canoe & Kayak Sea Kayak Skills Course. This covers paddle and rescue techniques, as well as theory on topics such as trip planning, equipment, weather etc. The course is suitable for complete beginners, but if you already have some skills, we will take those to the next level.
If you are not yet a club member but are keen to get involved just call in to the C&K shop at 2/20 Ascension Place (off Constellation Drive) Mairangi Bay, Auckland, Phone: 09 479 1002, Email: northshore@canoeandkayak.co.nz
Beginners Trips - there are trips suitable for beginners who have completed C&K's Sea Kayak Skills Course. This is an ideal way for new paddlers to gain experience and fitness while under the watchful eye of experienced instructors.
Intermediate & Advanced trips - these trips run throughout the year and include destinations such as Tiritiri Matangi, Lake Waikaremoana, Motuihe, circumnaviation of Rangitoto, and anywhere else you would like to go. We even have an annual trip overseas!
Evening Paddles during the summer months. Meeting after work, we have dinner on a beach somewhere, often returning at dusk.
Surfing at Orewa during the summer months. We take a trailer load of sit-on-tops, white-water kayaks and sea kayaks, and go and play for a couple of hours. This is great fun and a great way to improve your skills. If you haven't done this before we will show you how.
Intermediate Skills Courses include Weather, Navigation, Paddle Skills, Rescues & Towing.
Leader's Course - every year we run a Leader's Course for those who are keen to be involved.
Testimonials -
The Club is based on competence, great experiences, and the safety of paddling in a group. We frequently take day paddles to the beautiful Hauraki Gulf islands (open-water crossings which I wouldn't undertake on my own) - as well as multi-day trips in NZ and occasional international destinations.
Some basic training is a pre-requisite to joining trips and is an excellent investment. Instructors and trip leaders are properly qualified and sensitive to each person's ability and concerns.
I really enjoy this inclusive group of sea-kayakers of all ages, with whom I can extend my ability and fitness, visit new places, and make new friends
