Meet at Matheson Bay 10 am on the water by 10.30 am. Goat Island is one of the best trips in the region. We will paddle north to Leigh around Cape Rodney where there are some caves to explore. Goat Island is a Marine Reserve, and its a good idea to take your mask and snorkel for a swim at lunch time.
Distance is 15km, and this trip is suitable for intermediate paddlers - conditions can get tricky around Cape Rodney.
Additional hazards -
Care is needed if there is a swell or an onshore wind especially in the vicinity of Cape Rodney.
If there is a swell running we need to take care landing at Leigh.
Equipment needed -
Usual kayaking safety gear, helmet for rock gardening, mask and snorkel, money for fish and chips (optional).
