Updated paddle/walk info for the Dacre Cottage Christmas Dinner – Saturday 20 July at 4pm
Paddle, Walk or Stay the night.
Paddle to Dacre Cottage:
Meet at the centre of Arkles Bay at 2.30pm for a 3.00pm departure.
Paddle along the coast to Weiti River and enjoy meandering through the moored yachts at Stillwater. Continue on from the Weiti River to Dacre Cottage, arriving 4pm.
Bring kayak wheels to transport your boat to the beach.
Land on the beach away from the roped off areas of nesting birds.
Enjoy a delicious Christmas Dinner in the grounds of Dacre Cottage and the Red Barn, organised by Pete Townend of Canoe & Kayak. A roast dinner and desert served in the second oldest house in Auckland!
After a delicious dinner paddle back to Arkles Bay in the dark, departing around 7.30pm.
Latest time off water 9pm.
What to bring:
Head torch
Kayak night light
Kayak wheels
A towel and warm clothes to change into if you get wet on the way over
Your favourite tipple to have with dinner
Distance Arkles Bay via Stillwater to Dacre Cottage 5.5km.
Return distance Dacre Cottage to Arkles Bay 2.5km.

Suitable for beginners if under 15 knots.
Plan B – If the weather is too bad to kayak we will join those walking in from the carpark at Ara Weiti Road off East Coast Road at 3.30pm.

Walk to Dacre Cottage:
Walk in from the carpark at Ara Weiti Road off East Coast Road. A pretty but rough bush walk that takes 15 to 20 minutes. Meeting time will be 3.30pm at Ara Weiti Car Park.
What to Bring:
Gumboots or tramping boots as the track can be muddy.
Rain coat / umbrella
A towel to dry your feet after crossing the stream to Dacre Cottage.
A head torch for the walk back.
Your favourite tipple to have with Dinner.
Stay the night:
If you want to stay the night you can help with native tree planting on Sunday followed by a free BBQ lunch.
Departing from Dacre Cottage at 1pm.
If you kayaked or walked in to Dacre Cottage you will have to make your own way back.
What to bring:
Tent (or you can sleep in the Red Barn)
Sleeping bag
Toiletries and towel
Clothes suitable for evening and tree planting
Rain coat / umbrella
Gum boots / Tramping boots
